Great
Western Railway mixed-gauge track – 7ft 0¼in and 4ft
8½in
Tutorial
for making spline junctions/points/turnouts
This
range of mixed-gauge splines is each available in 2m, 4m and 8m
repeats. Please choose the best length for the location i.e. 2m
is best for making junctions and curves; 4m for short straight sections
and shallow curves, and 8m for straight track. The special joining
track is 2m long.
Making
junctions:
1.
Put down a length of the chosen track spline, make sure you have
a spline point at the position you want the junction. Add a length
to one side where you want the branch.
2.
Add a section of the matching joining track. Select one of its spline
points and slowly move it across to the left-hand
spline point of the branch line. Now select the other spline point
of the joining track and carefully attach it to the left-hand
spline point of the junction spline point.
3.
Put down some invisible wiring-up spline track. Select one of its
spline points and carefully attach it to the right-hand
spline point of the branch line. Attach the other spline point of
the wiring-up track to the right-hand spline point
of the junction.
4.
Now that everything is connected up you can move the spline points
to their final position.
5.
Add a lever to the junction by clicking on one
of the tracks. Add an invisible lever to the other
track.
6.
I then add a junction controller to link up what is in effect two
junctions stacked on top of each other.
7.
When placing locos and rolling stock you need to be careful to make
sure you put it on the correct track. I found it quite easy to get
them on the wrong one!
Here
is a tutorial video showing the above method. I used Trainz2004.
My
thanks to John (teddytoot) who worked out how to make mixed-gauge
track and points and showed me what to do. I will be making animated
mixed-gauge points/turnouts and I hope to release an initial range
of these during Spring 2012.
